Backyard Camping

Backyard camping can be a great introduction to the joys of camping. Depending upon where you live, it can be a safe way for your kids to get a taste of camping without having to be too far from your guidance and protection. Backyard camping can give you child the illusion of independence that will make it fun and a character building exercise. Backyard camping can make a kid feel like they are being brave and grown up. The backyard can get to be a pretty scary place lat at night when you are backyard camping with a friend and mom and dad are nowhere in sight. When you are backyard camping, it doesn't just feel like you are only a few steps from the house. It seems like you are out in the wilderness alone with no adults to protect you.

Of course in today's world, backyard camping might not be so safe and you need to consider the character of your neighborhood before allowing your child to be out and vulnerable in a flimsy tent if there is any chance bad people are lurking about. Backyard camping can be a family affair. Everyone in the family can enjoy backyard camping. You can pitch a tent and set up a real campsite in your backyard. You can even have a campfire if local regulations allow it. You can cook and eat camping food like hot dogs and hamburgers and then you can roast marshmallows in the campfire or bar-b-que while singing all your favorite camping songs. You could even make your backyard camping a neighborhood party and have a real time of it.

Backyard camping can be a great learning experience for your kits. You can simulate actual wilderness camping and they can learn and practice all the important and necessary camping skills in a safe and controlled environment. You can teach them woods craft while backyard camping. They can learn all the safe ways of doing things around a campsite. You can show them how to pitch a tent correctly and how to prepare for rain during the night. When backyard camping, you can teach them how to build and safely maintain a campfire and how to put it out safely. Backyard camping sure is a great learning experience and can prepare your children for camping in the national parks or even the wilderness later on. And backyard camping has the potential to create memories for both you and your children that you all can bring up at family gatherings when the children are grown and reminisce together about the fun times you and they had when backyard camping.
