Camping Safety
Camping safety is a very important thing. If proper camping safety is not observed, what started out as a fun vacation can quickly degenerate into a tragedy. Camping safety needs to be taught to every child and rigorously enforced by every adult. Camping safety is no accident as they say. It takes training and diligent practice, but considering the consequences, a little effort in the are of camping safety is small price to pay.
Camping safety begins with attitude. If your basic attitude about camping is to have fun, but do it safely, then you will be a long way down the road of happy camping. Camping safety takes diligence. You need to train in the ways of doing things safely and then use those skills to always camp safely. A short cut here and a shortcut there can lead to big trouble. A single moment's carelessness can mean loss of life or a lifetime of pain, disfigurement and regret.
Camping is fun and exciting for kids, partly because they get to use tools that they do not get to use at home. things like big sharp knives, hatchets, and axes. These are things you wouldn't even consider letting your children neat at home, but in the campsite, they may be left just lying around. Or you may even expect your kids to do some of the wood chopping for the campfire. So camping safety demands that you instruct your children in the proper use of these tools and that whenever possible you oversee their use. Camping safety also requires that you not leave these dangerous tools just lying around the campsite for any unsupervised child to pick up. A good camping safety rule is for you to require your children to come and tell you if they see one of these tools lying around the campsite. You should instruct them not to touch it, but to come and get you to pick it up and put it safely away.
Another big camping safety issue is fire. No campsite is complete without a campfire, but certain campfire safety rules must be observed if you are to have a happy and safe camping vacation. The first camping safety rule about the campfire should be that you locate it out in the open, away from any tents and not under any trees. The next campfire safety rule regarding your campfire is that it should be in a pit surrounded by rocks. Another camping safety rule in reference to campfires is that no child should play near or with the campfire. there should never be any running or horseplay near the campfire and your children should not be tending the fire or touching it in any way without your direct supervision. Campfire safety rules can seem like a pain, but in reality they can save you a lot of pain.
