In the winter when the forest is silent and coated in white snow, you will find that it is a most beautiful place. And snow camping can put you there right in the middle of it. Snow camping can be so relaxing because there usually isn't anyone else around like when you go camping in the summer. Winter snow camping is a much more solitary affair and therefore a much more spiritual adventure.

The woods are so much quieter with only the occasional sound of melting snow falling through the trees. You can see so much farther when snow camping because the trees have all dropped their leaves and the forest seems so much brighter with the sun reflecting off the snow that covers the ground all around you. snow camping has its own special beauty that you really should experience for yourself.

Snow camping can be dangerous if you go in the late winter or early spring when the snow is beginning to melt and the danger of avalanches is high, but if you go in mid-winter when everything is well frozen, the danger of avalanches is less. Of course, the cold is always dangerous in terms of possible frostbite so you must always take caution when snow camping not to get overexposure to the extreme cold. One of the great joys of snow camping is the peace and quiet once you are tucked in for the night in your tent, all warm and cozy. But snow camping takes some extra planning and preparation, although it is worth it.

You will need to be sure you have packed enough warm clothing. The new high tech clothing that is lightweight, but warm is a very good thing to have. These new fabrics wick the perspiration away from your skin so they keep you dry and warm. Depending upon where you will be snow camping, you may need to pack skies or snowshoes in order to get in and out of the forest or your camping site in the mountains. If you are an experience cross country skier, then you won't need to rely on groomed trails so you can really head out into the wilderness.

You will need to be careful about hungry animals during the winter when you go snow camping. You need to be sure to stow your food so it is inaccessible to bears who might not be hibernating and out looking for food. Also wolves may be bold enough to venture into your camp if winter has bee hard enough and they are hungry enough so do exercise caution when snow camping.

But whatever type of snow camping you do, you are sure to find it peaceful and relaxing because snow camping is beautiful and quiet and you will find great peace of min when you go snow camping.
